San Antonio lies on the bank of the Paraguay River about 20 km from Asunción and covers 23 km², according to the Gobernación. Terport (Terminales Portuarias S.A.) has operated a port terminal there since 2002, at km 363 of the Paraguay River, and the Tres Leones beverage company opened a plant in the city with an investment of about US$ 11 million (reported in January 2024). In September 2025 the governorate and the municipality opened the Paseo Costero San Antonio, a riverside promenade with a 1,300 m walking circuit on Avenida Juan Pablo II, built for more than G. 5,000 million.
