Many neighborhoods still lack all-weather streets, according to ABC Color in November 2024. The paved road to Puerto Jejuí had deteriorated so badly that the municipality spread gravel over sections of it in April and again in November 2025. San Pedro del Ycuamandyyú is the capital of San Pedro department, about 330 km from Asunción, with 32,267 residents in the 2022 census. La Nación (June 2025) describes a farm economy in the department built on soybean, corn and chía, with chía sold to Japan and livestock areas around colonia Andrés Barbero, Puerto Ybapovó and Piri Pucú. The municipality depends heavily on national transfers: from January to October 2024 it received about G. 6,205 million from the Ministry of Economy, of which about G. 3,687 million were royalties (ABC Color, November 2024).

ABC Color noted in November 2024 that neighborhoods still lack all-weather streets, and that ANDE ordered work stopped on a municipal sports complex in barrio San Rafael because of electrocution risk from a nearby high-voltage line. In September 2026 a departmental disaster-risk council, chaired by the departmental government, was formed to prepare for possible heavy rains from El Niño 2026-2027, citing the department's many rivers, streams and wetlands (ABC Color).

Why Investors Build in San Pedro del Ycuamandyyú

Outside interest is tied mainly to farmland. La Nación (June 2025) reports that talks about a meat plant, a dairy plant and avocado processing had not yet produced an installed plant near the city. In the historic center, restoration of the municipal Casa de la Cultura, supervised by the Secretaría Nacional de Cultura, was announced to start on 14 September 2026 under a 10-month contract (ABC Color). Road access is a constraint: in November 2025 the municipality regraveled the deteriorated paved road to Puerto Jejuí for the second time in seven months because it had become nearly impassable (ABC Color).
